Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory seeks a NIF Laser System Operator to monitor and control beam control and injection laser subsystems for NIF experiments. Responsible for real-time operation, alignment, timing, and data collection on a 24/7 facility with 3/12-4/12 shifts and overtime in the final two hours of each shift.

The role requires an on-site presence in Livermore, CA, collaboration with Physics and Engineering teams, and adherence to safety and security standards.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain DOE Q-level clearance.
• Associate degree in electronics/laser technology or related field.
• Experience with moderately complex electronic assembly and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of electro-mechanical technology and electronics theory applied to controls.
• Commitment to safe work practices.
• Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support in design, development, and installation of laser systems.
• Perform maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and upgrades of existing systems.
• Create and maintain system documentation and optical drawings.
• Support physics/engineering staff in experimental setups.
• Acquire and analyze data using data acquisition tools.
• Operate subsystems via GUI to align targets and laser beams.
• Prepare documentation and graphics with CAD/engineering software.
