Job summary

UVA Health in Charlottesville, VA seeks a Labor and Delivery RN to provide patient-centered care during labor, delivery and the immediate postpartum period. The role partners with obstetricians, midwives, neonatologists, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality outcomes in a high-acuity environment.

You will assess mothers and fetuses, develop care plans, educate families, and mentor newer nurses while contributing to a strong team culture.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
• Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive, patient-centered care throughout labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period.
• Perform continuous maternal and fetal assessments, recognizing and responding to changes in clinical status.
• Collaborate with providers and care teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Support patients and families through education, emotional support, and advocacy during the childbirth experience.
• Participate in high-acuity cases, including emergent deliveries and complex obstetric scenarios.
• Utilize advanced clinical technology and evidence-based protocols to ensure optimal outcomes.
• Precept and mentor newer nurses while contributing to a strong team culture grounded in professionalism and shared accountability.

Education

Bachelor of Science in Nursing
