Job summary

Xanadu, a leader in photonic quantum computing hardware, is hiring for a fabrication process engineer to advance heterogeneous integration of photonic components. You will define experiments, work with partners on µTP and bonding processes, and guide metrology and failure analysis to optimize performance.

The role requires a PhD in a related field, strong data analysis skills, and experience with semiconductor/metrology techniques.

Qualifications

• PhD in physics, materials science, electrical engineering or related field.
• Experience with heterogeneous integration processes for integrated photonics and/or semiconductor applications, including µTP, die-to-wafer bonding, wafer-to-wafer bonding, or similar.
• Familiarity with semiconductor and photonics metrology and failure analysis techniques (e.g., SEM, TEM, AFM, ellipsometry, XRR/XRD, SIMS, Raman).
• Experience with data analysis using Python, JMP, MATLAB, etc.
• Knowledge of photonics components like waveguides, modulators, switches, beamsplitters, resonators, MZIs.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute process improvement experiments for heterogeneous integration of photonic components.
• Collaborate with external partners to perform process development and optimization experiments (µTP, die-to-wafer bonding, wafer-to-wafer bonding).
• Define and execute metrology and failure analysis plans to identify failure modes and assess results.
• Coordinate with Xanadu’s industrial partners and internal photonics teams.
• Evaluate tool needs and perform vendor assessments for heterogeneous integration.
• Travel as required (≤ 20% travel time).
