Job summary

Bluestem Communities Management Inc. Hesston Bakery and Cafe is seeking part-time Cafe Team Members to join our team. You will take orders, prepare items, ensure quality and provide excellent customer service in a welcoming setting in Hesston, Kansas.

The role emphasizes following recipes, proper food handling, and maintaining a clean workspace while assisting the team to serve our elderly customers with care and respect.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Must be able to operate a computer and handle basic cash transactions.
• Must speak and write English and provide great customer service.
• Must enjoy working with the elderly and understand their needs.

Responsibilities

• Take orders and prepare menu items including soups, salads, sandwiches, and drinks with excellent customer service.
• Follow recipes and consult daily menus to decide what to cook for the day.
• Use kitchen equipment properly and maintain food at correct temperatures.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in food prep areas and assist with dishwashing and turnover.

Explore the full range of benefits and learn more about how Bluestem Communities can be the right fit for you—visit our Careers page today!Position Overview:The primary responsibility of the Café Team Member is to perform the following tasks: take orders; prepare menu items including soups, salads, sandwiches, and drinks while providing excellent customer service.Essential Job Functions:Cooks food and prepares drinks according to menus and recipesUnderstand and adhere to all recipes.Remain alert to all team members and helps team out when needed.Consult daily menus and prep sheets to determine which food will be cooked for the day.Use all kitchen equipment appropriately.Organizes food preparationEnsure that food and drinks are ready at the proper time and temperature.Organize food and drinks to be served.Follows Food Code standards for preparing, handling, serving and storing foodCheck and record temperatures of food to ensure that it is served at correct temperatures.Cool food according to the Kansas Food Code.Prepare, cook and store food under appropriate temperatures and with safe food handling techniques.Cook food and prepare drinks in a manner to conserve nutritive value, flavor, appearance and texture.Uses food and supplies appropriately to maintain budgetUnderstand and follow food portion controls.Avoid wasting food or suppliesClean in assigned areas.Keep all kitchen equipment clean and in good working order.Cleans and sanitizes food preparation areasHelp wash dishes and put them away.Complete cleaning schedules.Use good sanitation practices.Qualifications and Experience:Must be at least 16 years of age.Must be able to operate a computer and handle basic cash transactions.Must have a positive attitude and provide great customer service.Must enjoy working with the elderly and be able to understand their needs.Must be able to speak and write English.Physical Requirements:Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
