Job description

Summary

Responsible for performing basic bedside nursing tasks in a clinical setting. Administers medications according to physician orders and established procedures for Medication Technician.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Take temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
  2. Feed and bathe patients, comb hair, and trim nails. Provide bedside care.
  3. Pass bedpans and collect urine, feces, and sputum specimens. Assist with treatments and administer enemas.
  4. Prepare deceased patients for the morgue with assistance.
  5. Report changes in patient condition to nurses and doctors.
  6. Clean patient units; empty wastebaskets; care for flowers; clean utility and storage areas.
  7. Orient new aides to hospital routines.
  8. Assist doctors and nurses with procedures such as lumbar punctures, bronchoscopies, and orthopedic applications. Perform additional duties as assigned.
  9. Administer medications as instructed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification by the Maryland Board of Nursing as a Certified Nursing Assistant; CPR certification required annually; registration with the MBON as a Medication Technician.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions, perform basic math, and compare numbers and letters.
  • Ability to understand and respond to written and verbal instructions; communicate courteously with patients and visitors.
Required Physical, Mental, and Visual Abilities
  • Lifting and carrying objects over 50 pounds.
  • Pushing and pulling non-motorized equipment over 50 pounds.
  • Stooping, bending, reaching, and grasping.
  • Walking and standing for extended periods.
Working Conditions

Performing some unpleasant diagnostic or patient care duties.

Salary Range: Minimum $21.81/hour; maximum negotiable based on experience and role scope. Salary discussions will occur during candidate screening.
