Job description

Summary

Responsible for performing basic bedside nursing tasks in a clinical setting. Administers medications according to physician orders and established procedures for Medication Technicians.

II. Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Takes vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
  2. Provides bedside care including feeding, bathing, hair combing, and nail cutting.
  3. Assists with or performs procedures such as passing bedpans, collecting specimens, and assisting with treatments.
  4. Prepares deceased patients for the morgue with assistance.
  5. Reports patient condition changes to nursing staff and physicians.
  6. Maintains cleanliness of patient units and related areas.
  7. Assists in orienting new aides to hospital routines.
  8. Supports doctors and nurses with specific procedures as needed and performs additional duties as assigned.
  9. Administers medications as instructed.

III. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Certification by the Maryland Board of Nursing as a Certified Nursing Assistant and registration as a Medication Technician; CPR certification annually.
  3. Ability to read, understand instructions, perform basic math, and compare information.
  4. Ability to understand and respond to written and verbal instructions courteously.

IV. Required Physical, Mental, and Visual Abilities

  1. Ability to lift and carry objects over 50 pounds.
  2. Ability to push and pull equipment over 50 pounds.
  3. Capability to stoop, bend, reach, grasp, walk, and stand for extended periods.

V. Working Conditions

  1. Performs some unpleasant diagnostic or patient care duties.

Salary Range: Minimum $21.81/hour; maximum salary to be discussed during screening. Compensation will be based on experience and role scope.
