Shift & Compensation

Work shift: Monday–Saturday, 12:00am to 8:30am, 40hours.

Target pay: $24.81 per hour.

Job Purpose

The Hematology Technician II performs laboratory analyses and tests. Prepares samples, sets up instruments, runs tests, and reads, interprets, and releases results.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and run laboratory tests.
  • Read and release test results.
  • Read urinalysis slides, bacteria, and parasite review slides at department minimum rates.
  • Build hematology and UA loads.
  • Operate Atlas UA instrument as requested.
  • Perform all required quality control per QA guidelines, including instrument maintenance and temperature charts.
  • Find missing specimens and reconcile queue lists.
  • Maintain organization of storage refrigerator.
  • Set up and assist with avian and exotic specimens as requested.
  • Prepare blood smears and perform re-checks as directed using LTP when necessary.
  • Library all samples and ensure bar‑coded racks are arranged correctly and loaded onto instruments.
  • Run all needed quality control and calibration per department.
  • Read, understand, and follow applicable SOPs, safety, and quality procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Restock supplies as needed.
  • Participate in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
  • Consult with senior peers on non‑complex hematology tasks to learn through experience.
  • May be asked to participate in enterprise initiatives, special projects, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; prior or some laboratory experience preferred.
  • 2- or 4-year degree in a science-related field is preferred.
  • Laboratory skills with experience setting up, running, and operating lab instruments.
  • Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology.
  • Knowledge of parasitology procedures and equipment helpful.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to learn new assignments efficiently and support other teams during low demand periods.
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Positive, can‑do attitude.
  • Basic math, interpretive, and analytical skills.
  • Strong data entry skills required.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software.
Working Conditions
  • Stationary position; must remain stationary for up to 2 hours.
  • Constantly operate computer and other lab equipment accurately and efficiently.
  • Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch.
  • Required to lift, move, and carry up to 20lbs.
  • Must observe details at close range.
  • Extended hours may be needed.
  • Laboratory environment with potential biohazards mitigated by mandatory PPE.
  • Potential exposure to zoonotic disease agents and hazardous chemicals as defined by national standards.
