Job description

We are seeking an exceptional individual to serve as the founding Section Chief of Hematology and Hematologic Malignancy. In collaboration with the Hematology/Oncology leadership, Internal Medicine Department Chair, and Hematology/Oncology faculty, the Section Chief will develop the vision and operational strategy for the section, encompassing clinical care delivery and academic advancement. The Section Chief will also serve as the Associate Program Director for the Hematology-Oncology fellowship program.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced hematologist with a strong interest in education and research, demonstrating leadership skills. The individual should be a builder with operational and strategic expertise to develop and implement a future plan for the section. Additionally, the leader will serve as a content expert as the organization advances a CAR T-cell program.

The Section Chief will identify and promote synergies within the Department of Medicine, other oncological practices of Vandalia South, and serve as a resource for the entire 17-hospital Vandalia Health System. The ideal candidate is a relationship-builder with demonstrated clinical and academic skills.

Key Goals and Responsibilities of the New Section Chief, Hematology and Hematologic Malignancy:

1. Collaborate with faculty and leadership to create a clear vision that inspires faculty engagement, supports growth and innovation in patient care, and elevates the section’s regional and national stature.
2. Enhance the section's research activity, supporting the Cancer Center faculty and the Institute for Academic Medicine.
3. Provide leadership for the hematology/oncology fellowship program and support trainee retention as future faculty.
4. Develop and support hematology educational programs for students, residents, and fellows, providing mentorship for learners and faculty.
5. Recruit diverse, qualified faculty, offering leadership support and faculty development.
6. Collaborate with academic partners, physician leaders, and administrators to support clinical program implementation and quality initiatives.
7. Drive strategic and annual operating plans to ensure coordination, integration, and alignment of people, systems, and processes.
8. Promote an environment of accountability and continuous improvement.
