Hematology & Medical Oncology Opportunity - Western, NC
Caldwell UNC Health is the preferred healthcare provider in Caldwell County. The Emergency Department handles approximately 30,000+ visits annually. UNC Physicians Network offers primary care and select specialty care across thirteen medical park locations throughout the county. Our 137-bed licensed hospital is part of the UNC Health System. We are seeking a personable and engaging hematology/oncology physician to join our team.
Position Features:
Established in 2006, the Cancer Center is a well-regarded resource serving Caldwell County and surrounding areas. The offices are located on two ends of the county to minimize patient travel. This growing practice requires an additional provider, with anticipated caseloads of 15-20 patients per day per provider.
The practice consistently ranks in the 99th percentile for patient satisfaction. On-site infusion services require supervision, with pharmacy for sterile compounding and lab for quick results. Bi-weekly Tumor Boards facilitate multidisciplinary collaboration.
The role includes outpatient, inpatient, and ED consults, with about 10% of time dedicated to program development, especially enhancing access to clinical trials in collaboration with UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. The provider will also lead initiatives to streamline oncology care, promote patient-centered and evidence-based practices, and collaborate with community providers to maximize patient retention within the McCreary/Caldwell UNC Health Care service area.

Located centrally to key cities in Western North Carolina, with approximately 70-minute travel times to Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Asheville, and Winston-Salem, and only 20 minutes to the North Carolina High Country and Blowing Rock resort community.
The area offers a temperate climate with four distinct seasons and scenic natural beauty. It is close to higher education institutions such as Appalachian State University in Boone, Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute in Hudson, and features an excellent public school system, including an Early College High School.
