Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a Medical Technologist to perform and analyze clinical laboratory tests across disciplines in a fast-paced hospital setting. Responsibilities include setup and operation of instruments, quality control, and communication with nurses and physicians.

The role requires state licensure where services are provided, a BS in Medical Technology or related field, and CLIA-experience.

Qualifications

• Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided.
• BS in Medical Technology/Clinical Lab Science or BS in chemical/biological sciences or 30+ years of CLIA-related experience with grandfathered exception.
• Certification as Medical Technologist/Medical Lab Scientist by ASCP or AMT (preferred).
• Experience as a Medical Technologist.

Responsibilities

• Process and analyze samples in a timely fashion with accurate identification.
• Set up, run, maintain, and adjust laboratory instruments per policies.
• Perform quality control and follow infection-control procedures.
• May perform quality control summaries.
• Perform phlebotomy procedures as needed.
• Complete forms and report findings to nurses and/or physicians.
• Interact with healthcare workers to solve problems and interpret results.
• Perform routine laboratory testing within designated area.
• Identify testing inconsistencies and take corrective action.
• Maintain patient and specimen records accurately.
• Follow hospital, state, and federal safety guidelines.
• Communicate professionally with patients, families, physicians, and staff.
