Qualifications

• The Nurse Practitioner Medical Specialty is a licensed, certified, non-physician healthcare provider.
• They provide direct patient care and have prescriptive authority.
• The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician's scope of practice.
• They work in specialty clinics and may focus on nephrology, cardiology, endocrinology, dermatology, and others.

Responsibilities

• Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients via exams and histories.
• Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory tests to assess health needs.
• Prescribes medications and treatments following approved protocols and safety standards.
• Formulates and implements patient treatment plans and collaborates with physicians.
• Counsels patients and families on medical processes, medications, nutrition, and health promotion.
• Maintains records detailing treatment plans and outcomes; initiates referrals when needed.
• Provides consultation for conditions related to the specialty and supervises care when required.
• Manages patients in settings beyond primary clinics as needed.
• Performs invasive procedures as delegated by supervising physician.
