The Helper A at Fernwood is responsible for executing maintenance requests by diagnosing problems and completing service requests and repairs timely and thoroughly to maintain the community's physical condition according to safety and operating standards.

We are hiring a 2nd Shift Technician for the Algonquin property! The schedule is Sunday-Thursday, 1p-9:30p, with a pay range of $23.61-$26.23/hour, contingent on SEIU Local 1 union certifications.

Essential Functions

• Diagnose and perform property maintenance/repair daily, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliances, flooring, lighting, gas fixtures, doors, security systems, drywall, carpentry, waste management, and more.
• Ensure apartments are rent-ready in a timely manner, perform make-ready work, and inspect vacated units.
• Maintain accurate records of service requests and apartment status.
• Report unsafe conditions and major repairs to management.
• Maintain inventory of spare parts and tools, and perform routine preventive maintenance.
• Apply safety standards and promote safe work practices.
• Ensure compliance with laws and regulations, including Fair Housing.
• Respond to emergency requests, including after-hours and weekends.

Qualifications

• 1 year of property maintenance experience.
• Helper A union training or willingness to enroll in a 2-year apprenticeship.
• Good communication skills in English, basic arithmetic, and ability to read maintenance tickets and labels.
• Ability to operate maintenance tools and equipment, and handle chemicals and supplies.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, kneel, climb, and perform manual tasks.
• Own basic tools and knowledge of safe tool use and maintenance.
