Job summary

Nevada Division of Forestry in Minden, NV is seeking an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist to inspect, repair and overhaul agency helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft to FAA standards.

You will maintain and update technical data and comply with federal regulations, often working independently with minimal training. The role may require travel for fire assignments across the state, and offers a permanent on-site position with overtime during fire season.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Five years journey-level experience as an FAA Aircraft Mechanic, including 3 years in helicopters.
• FAA Airframe & Powerplant Rating required at time of application; IA within 1 year of appointment.

Description

• Under general supervision, Aircraft Maintenance Specialists perform inspections, repair and overhaul on agency aircraft such as light and medium class rotorcraft and fixed-wing aircraft in order to ensure the safety of passengers and equipment engaged in flight operations; and maintain and update technical data related to aircraft maintenance and applicable federal regulations.
• Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
• This Division of Forestry’s mission is to provide professional natural resource and wildland management services to enhance, conserve and protect forest, rangeland and watershed values, endangered plants and other native flora.
• The agency operates one Bell Helicopter 212S Eagle Copters conversion, one Bell 205 and one military surplus UH-1H helicopter.
• The incumbent will perform inspections, repair and overhaul on agency operated helicopters meeting FAA standards.
• All work is to ensure the safety of crew, passengers and equipment engaged in flight operations.
• The incumbent maintains and updates technical data related to aircraft maintenance and applicable federal regulations and performs other duties as assigned.
• The incumbent may be required to travel on fire assignments and other division missions throughout the State.

While not guaranteed, paid overtime is available on incidents during the fire season, typically June – Oct

Job Requirements

• Graduation from high school or equivalent education
• Five years of journey level experience as a Certified Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic including at least three years of experience in repairing and maintaining helicopters within the last five years.
• Incumbents must obtain a Class B commercial driver's license with air brake, hazardous materials, and tanker endorsements within one year of appointment.
• Incumbents must maintain current licensure and certifications as a condition of continuing employment.
• A valid Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
• Applicants must possess an FAA Airframe and Powerplant Rating at the time of application. Incumbents must obtain an Inspection Authorization within one year of appointment.
• Pursuant to NRS, all positions in this class have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this class must first submit to a pre‑employment screening for controlled substances.
• Applicants must possess an FAA Airframe and Powerplant Rating.
