Qualifications

Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Heavy Truck Driver. As a Heavy Truck Driver, you would perform manual labor in the operation of light to heavy duty trucks and motorized equipment to repair and maintain trunkline, primary/local roads, and right-of-way.

Schedule
  • Winter schedule: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with potential for overtime. May be required to work "double shifts" for up to 16 hours in winter storm events.
  • Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with potential for overtime.
  • Required to be on call 24/7 due to weather conditions.
Essential Duties
  • Operate heavy-duty dump trucks with snowplows, underbody blades, sand and salt spreaders, and liquid applications to remove ice and snow from roadways.
  • Perform manual labor such as digging ditches, cleaning and installing culverts, removing debris, loading/unloading tools and materials.
  • Serve as traffic regulator on road maintenance crews; direct traffic around hazards; set out signs, cones, barricades.
  • Operate trucks, trailers, and related equipment; haul and dump materials; load and transport road equipment.
  • Operate chain saw, skid steer, chipper, and related equipment for tree and brush removal/trimming.
  • Perform pre-trip/post-trip inspections, minor maintenance, and servicing on vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform crack seal operations; guide emulsion wands, fill cracks with emulsion, and shovel stones.
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of vehicles and equipment.
  • Record materials, supplies, time, and equipment usage for billing and records.
Requirements
  • At least 1 year of experience in highway maintenance, construction, farming, forestry, landscaping, or related labor-intensive work involving machinery and tools.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Michigan Class A CDL.
  • Ability to provide 24-hour on-call services.
