Job Summary

The Mixer Truck Driver operates a specialized vehicle to manufacture, deliver, and unload ready-mixed concrete and related materials to various locations in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. The driver receives assignments from the dispatcher or plant manager and delivers to job sites, often in difficult and congested areas. Work hours vary daily based on customer demand, with night and weekend shifts frequently required.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operates a concrete mixer truck to deliver and unload ready-mixed concrete and related materials to various locations.
  • Provides courteous and conscientious service, exceeding customer expectations for quality and service.
  • Becomes knowledgeable in the quality and safe application of the concrete products produced and delivered.
  • In-person attendance is required.
  • Complies with OSHA and USDOT/FMCSA safe-operating practices.
  • Follows directions and works efficiently and safely.
  • Adheres to company policies, including restrictions on hand-held mobile phone use while driving (both in transit and stopped).
  • Safely accesses and navigates the facility (or facilities) and customer sites, including climbing and descending ladders.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) appropriate for the vehicle being operated.

Other Required Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs other functions as necessary or as assigned, including truck or plant maintenance, truck and mixer-drum cleaning, mowing, and weed control at plant sites, etc.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and standing.
  • Maintains assigned equipment in clean, work-ready condition, including performing minor maintenance and repairs.
  • The position will require work outside of normal business hours.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.

Skills/Abilities

  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is required.
  • Strong math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, are required.
  • Knowledge of local roads, streets, and highways for efficient deliveries is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with the principles of quality concrete and concrete construction practices is a plus.
  • Use of personal protective and safety equipment as directed is required.
  • Must maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Represent The Gerken Companies to customers in a professional manner, supporting the company’s goals.
  • Safe operation of a concrete mixer under varying job site conditions is required.
  • Must maintain professional relationships with customers, managers, and colleagues.
  • Accountable for money collected for goods and services, ensuring it is promptly returned to the company.
  • Alerting the customer and company to unsafe conditions on the job site is essential.

Education and Experience

  • Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited high school is required.
  • Working knowledge and experience in minor repair and maintenance of heavy-duty trucks is preferred.
