Job summary

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Jackson, Wyoming seeks a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic, WG-5803-10. The position is located within the Department of the Interior and Region 6, National Elk Refuge-WY, with housing available but not required.

Duties include operating and maintaining heavy equipment, welding, plumbing, and concrete work as per engineering specifications. First time hires start at the step 1 rate; telework is eligible.

Qualifications

• There is no substitution of education for experience for Federal Wage System (FWS) positions.

Responsibilities

• Excavate, build, grade, load, level and finish to exact specifications using excavator, bulldozer, loader, backhoe, road grader, forklift, scraper or trencher; closely to above/below ground facilities and equipment.
• Perform welding using acetylene, electric, and MIG methods; install/repair disposal, water, sewage and filtration systems; oil/gas distribution; install and repair concrete and masonry structures.
• Maintain and repair heavy equipment (draglines, cranes, excavators, dozers, forklifts, dump trucks, graders, backhoes) and diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
• Utilize manuals, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and specs to identify problems and complete maintenance, construction, and installation projects; perform related building repairs.
