Job summary

West Fraser is seeking a Maintenance Technician to repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, structural, and pneumatic systems on loaders, forklifts, and heavy equipment. You will troubleshoot subsystems, perform preventive maintenance, replace bearings and tires, and weld on equipment as needed.

You must work weekends/holidays and endure extreme environments. Minimum two years’ experience in heavy rolling stock repair (gas/diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical, pneumatics).

Qualifications

  • Must have 2 years of experience with direct responsibility in troubleshooting and repairing heavy rolling stock equipment, including gas/diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, pneumatics and structural damage.
  • Good welding skills in all positions and cutting skills with a torch.
  • Professional tools and toolboxes for repairing rolling stock equipment; willingness to acquire additional tools.

Responsibilities

Description

What you will do:

  • Repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, structural, and pneumatic systems on loaders, forklifts and heavy equipment. The functions include but are not limited to troubleshooting electrical, fuel, hydraulic, brake and pneumatic systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance checks on all rolling stock, including oil and filter changes and completing preventive maintenance records
  • Change bearings and set for proper clearance
  • Replace flat tires and all miscellaneous repairs
  • Weld on equipment, as needed
  • Assist in mill repairs in emergency situations, as needed
  • Maintain mobile shop wash bay and surrounding areas
  • Able to identify part in parts manual for proper ordering
  • Must be able to understand and satisfactorily complete work orders, preventative maintenance, and other tasks in a timely manner while following all Safety Requirements and Lock-Out Procedures
  • Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment and completing all training
  • Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and overtime hours along with varying shift patterns
  • Able to work in extreme environments (hot, cold, rain, snow, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

  • Must have 2 years of experience with direct responsibility in troubleshooting and repairing, heavy rolling stock equipment to include: gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, pneumatic and structural damage
  • Must have good welding skills in all positions and cutting skills with a torch
  • Must have professional tools and toolboxes used in the repair of rolling stock equipment and willing to acquire additional tools
  • Must be physically capable of bending, reaching, lifting and able to work in extreme environments (hot, cold, rain, snow, etc.)
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work unsupervised
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and overtime hours
  • Must know how to follow direction
  • Must have good attendance record
  • Good leadership qualities
  • Must meet in-house minimum testing standards for Maintenance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-year degree in heavy equipment repair and 5 years’ experience or demonstrated training certifications for heavy equipment
  • Extensive work history of Caterpillar and Volvo loaders, Taylor and Hyster forklifts and general automotive repair
  • Experience troubleshooting & repairing hydraulics & pneumatics systems and reading hydraulic schematics
  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
