Job summary

Priority Waste in Romulus, MI is hiring a Heavy Haul Driver to operate a tractor-trailer on assigned routes for solid waste and recycling debris. You will perform pre/post inspections, adhere to OSHA/DOT requirements, and maintain professional customer communications.

Ideal candidates hold a valid Class A CDL, have 1 year of heavy-haul experience with doubles, and can pass the DOT drug screen. A strong driving record and physical capability are essential for this role.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A CDL.
• 1 year of experience operating a heavy haul tractor trailer with doubles.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Must be able to pass physical and DOT drug screen.
• Must have a safe driving record with no avoidable accidents in the past five years.
• Must communicate professionally with customers, dispatch and internal customer service.
• Must be able to sit, kneel, crouch, stoop, crawl, balance, hear, talk and smell.
• Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
• May be required to work in emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Performs pre and post trip inspections of the truck.
• Operates truck in compliance with OSHA/DOT and local, state, and federal laws.
• Mounts and dismounts a heavy-duty truck multiple times a day.
• Communicates with customers as needed.
• Notifies Route Manager/Dispatch of incidents.
• Identifies and reports containers needing repair or replacement.
• Attends training sessions and meetings as required.
• Maintains truck cleanliness and professional appearance.

Job Purpose

In your role as a Heavy Haul Driver, you will be responsible for safely operating a tractor trailer truck and ancillary equipment on assigned route to haul solid waste/recycling debris from our transfer station to the landfill.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs pre and post trip inspections of truck
• Operates truck in accordance with OSHA and DOT requirements as well as all local, municipal, state, and federal laws
• Mounts and dismounts a heavy-duty truck many times each day
• Professionally communicates with customers as needed
• Notifies Route Manager/Dispatch of any accidents, injuries, property damage, or any other incidents
• Identifies and reports all containers in need of repair/replacement
• Attends training programs, briefings, and meetings as required
• Immediately communicates mechanical problems to Mechanic and Supervisor
• Communicates customer requests to Route Manager/Dispatch
• Immediately communicates mechanical problems to Mechanic and Supervisor
• Maintains cleanliness of vehicle
• Maintains professional appearance
