Job summary

The City of Kodiak is seeking a full-time Heavy Fleet Mechanic in the Public Works Department. The role involves repairing and maintaining heavy and light vehicles and equipment, inspecting and diagnosing engines, performing preventive maintenance, and keeping thorough maintenance records.

Candidate must have strong teamwork skills and the ability to work under general supervision in a progressive public works environment serving the Kodiak community.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or equivalent
• Technical training beyond high school preferred
• Equivalent combination of education and experience in automotive/diesel/heavy equipment repair acceptable

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on light and heavy vehicles and equipment
• Inspect, diagnose, overhauls, and adjust engines and related systems
• Maintain records and reports of maintenance and repairs
