Job summary

Tractor & Equipment Co. in Billings, MT seeks a Heavy Equipment Technician for the Specialty Shop to diagnose, repair and rebuild complex components.

You will use CAT diagnostic equipment and perform engine/transmission testing after rebuild, ensuring safety and quality throughout the process. The role requires a solid technical background, ability to work with heavy machinery, and a customer-focused attitude.

Qualifications

• Graduated from a 2- to 4-year vocational/technical school or equivalent experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of Caterpillar equipment, ET and SIS programs.
• Ability to operate forklift and hydraulic/mechanical presses, hoists and cranes safely.
• Maintain excellent customer relations.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
• Efficient in completing paperwork.
• Experience at a CAT dealership or with CAT products is ideal.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair and recondition heavy equipment components (engines, transmissions, torque converters, differentials and final drives).
• Disassemble, inspect, assemble and test components including hydraulic transmission tests and engine dynamometer testing after rebuild.
• Utilize CAT diagnostic equipment and tooling; perform rigging and blocking as needed.
• Plan and organize work to control job costs and analyze issues to identify and solve problems.
