Heavy Equipment Mechanic – Experienced

Location: Billings, MT, US, 59101

Department: Wheel End Assembly

Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to rebuild major components for mechanical drive heavy equipment trucks including but not limited to rear wheel groups, front corner groups, brake assembles and differentials.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct all activities in a safe manner, utilizing PPE and adhering to company policy and alerting others regarding potential concerns.
  • Adhere to all H-E Parts company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a good attendance record and the highest level of professional conduct.
  • Work with a team to assist with or teardown large and small components and assemblies.
  • Clean and prep parts for inspection.
  • Move components by operating overhead cranes, jib hoists and pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.
  • Prepare and secure parts for transportation by throughout the shop area.
  • Maintain a level of cleanliness throughout your work areas and the shop for good housekeeping and safety.
  • Complete inspection documents, upload pictures to proper files for quotes and estimates.
  • Read maintenance manuals and drawings.
  • Use material analyzer to detect coatings and identify parent material.
  • Lead team projects and help with training level I and II Technicians sharing knowledge and skills.
  • Perform all paint and wash bay functions.
  • Proficient at using and reading micrometers and other instruments for inspections.
  • Perform all process on sub-assemblies.
  • Assemble major components with limited oversight.
  • Resolve small or routine discrepancies and bring high level problems to supervisor for resolutions.
  • Learn to use the ERP system.
  • Able and willing to serve as relief supervisor as needed.
  • Direct the work of other technicians and provide training as needed.
  • Maintain high quality standard on all tasks and meet time requirements on assigned jobs.
  • Willing to take on new tasks (i.e. new product lines).
  • Proficient in the complete teardown/inspection processes.
  • Review all inspection packets for accuracy before turning in to supervisor.
  • Understand processes of the remanufacturing of parts.
  • Work with Engineering and Customers as needed for optimal product production.
  • Willingness to travel to mine sites to repair or troubleshoot our components.
  • Demonstrate an aptitude to learn and grow within the department and shop.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.
  • At least four-year mechanical work experience or equivalent education is required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50# is required.
  • Previous experience in heavy equipment repair; mechanical aptitude and basic understanding of precision measuring tools preferred.
