Job summary

Power Trip Rentals is seeking a detail-oriented, dependable Heavy Equipment Mechanic – Shop & Field Technician to join our growing team. This role inspects, diagnoses, repairs, and maintains heavy construction equipment in the shop and at job sites, including diesel engines, hydraulics, aerial work platforms, skid steers, and other rental machinery.

This position requires strong mechanical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in the field.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED; trade school or equivalent training.
• Experience with diesel engines, heavy machinery, hydraulics and electrical systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment in the field.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Strong problem-solving and math skills; able to read manuals and schematics.
• Proficient in MS Office for service reports and estimates.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, analyze, and troubleshoot heavy construction equipment and systems.
• Perform diagnostics and complex repairs on diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
• Read and interpret equipment schematics, repair manuals, and diagnostic codes.
• Perform preventative maintenance to ensure reliability and safety.
• Sourcing and replacing faulty components and systems.
• Fabricate or modify equipment components when necessary.
• Document repairs, maintenance records, and safety compliance reports.
• Provide accurate time and material cost estimates before work.
• Liaise with suppliers and clients to ensure timely service and repairs.
• Travel to job sites to repair/service equipment in the field.
