Job summary

Burns Dirt is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator in Columbus, MS. This role involves operating excavators, backhoes, loaders, and other heavy machinery for underground utility construction, trenching, and pipe placement.

Ideal candidates will have at least two years of experience, strong safety awareness, and the ability to read plans and follow site instructions. Applicants must pass drug, background, and MVR screenings as part of the hiring process.

Qualifications

• Two years of relevant heavy equipment experience.
• Ability to operate excavators, backhoes, loaders, skid steers, rollers.
• Must follow Burns Dirt safety rules and OSHA standards.
• Experience with trenching and pipe setting is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment for underground utility construction per project specs.
• Dig trenches to the requested line, depth, and grade for water, sewer, and storm drain work.
• Set pipe, manholes, inlets, boxes and other structures to grade.
• Load and unload pipe, trench boxes, and materials safely and efficiently.
• Inspect equipment daily and report any issues to Foreman/Shop.
• Maintain a safe work environment by following all safety guidelines.
