Heavy Equipment Operator
Columbus, MS
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating a variety of heavy machinery used in construction projects, such as excavators, dozers, loaders, motor graders, and backhoes. The operator ensures all work is performed to company standards, project specifications, and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the site foreman and other crew members to complete assigned tasks and project efficiently.
- Prepare various equipment by conducting inspections, including daily and weekly preventive maintenance checks.
- Read and interpret grade stakes, blueprints, and site plans to execute project work accurately.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and adhere to all company and OSHA safety standards.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and truck drivers to ensure smooth project flow.
- Responsible for general labor tasks when necessary or assigned for project needs.
Preferred Qualifications / Skills
- High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training in equipment operation preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating heavy construction equipment (preferred).
- Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
- Physical ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Attention to detail in all aspects of work. Ensures accuracy in grading, measurements, and project execution.
- Arrives on time, ready to work, and maintains consistent performance.
