Job summary

Burns Group in Columbus, MS is seeking a Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician to service trucks, bulldozers and other heavy equipment at job sites across the Southeast.

Ideal candidates have at least two years of hands-on experience; perform inspections, diagnose faults with testing equipment, replace parts, perform major repairs, and coordinate with the Fleet Manager. Drug screen, background and MVR checks apply; CDL A with Tanker/Hazmat preferred.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines.
  • Attention to detail and alertness to ensure safety.
  • Able to receive and follow instructions.
  • Communicates well with co-workers.
  • High school diploma is an asset.
  • Ability to safely operate various vehicles and equipment.
  • Previous experience in heavy equipment/maintenance preferred.
  • CDL Class A with Tanker and Hazmat Endorsements preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Drive to job sites.
  • Inspect trucks, bulldozers, and other heavy equipment for proper performance.
  • Diagnose faults using computerized testing equipment.
  • Adjust equipment and replace faulty parts.
  • Repair damaged equipment parts.
  • Clean, lubricate, and service heavy construction equipment and vehicles.
  • Clean and service machine attachments like winches, blades, and side booms.
  • Perform major repair work when necessary.
  • Consult with other mechanics on smaller jobs.
  • Report damaged or faulty equipment to Fleet Manager.

Ideal Candidate:
  • Requires at least two years of experience in the responsibilities listed below, which may include:
  • Driving to the job site.
  • Inspecting trucks, bulldozers, and other heavy equipment for proper performance.
  • Diagnosing faults using computerized testing equipment.
  • Adjusting equipment and replacing faulty parts.
  • Repairing damaged equipment parts.
  • Cleaning, lubricating, and conducting routine services on heavy construction equipment and vehicles.
  • Cleaning and servicing of machine attachments like winches, blades, and side booms.
  • Performing major repair work when necessary.
  • Consulting with other mechanics on smaller jobs.
  • Reporting damaged or faulty equipment to Fleet Manager.
Preferred Qualifications / Skills:
  • Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines
