Minimum age of 18. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Must hold a valid North Carolina CDL driver’s license for the vehicle operated. This position involves operating heavy equipment and performing manual labor related to department projects.
Applicants must be able to operate equipment such as track loaders, motor graders, track hoes, backhoes, tandem, and rubber tire loaders. The position requires working on-call, during inclement weather, and during emergencies.
Salary depends on qualifications. Responsibilities include operating various heavy equipment, hauling and loading materials, street maintenance, performing vehicle and equipment maintenance, snow removal, traffic management, assisting other departments, and other duties as assigned.
Ability to read, write, and perform math at a high school level. Experience of 1-2 years or an apprenticeship is preferred. A CDL Class "A" license is highly desirable. Knowledge of city policies, street construction, drainage, and equipment operation is preferred. Applicants must meet city driving record standards.
Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, handling tools and equipment, climbing, lifting over 100 pounds, and working in outdoor conditions with noise, dust, and inclement weather. A functional prework screening and drug test are required. This position is safety-sensitive and subject to random drug testing.
