Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid North Carolina CDL for the vehicle operated. This position involves operating heavy equipment and performing manual labor related to department projects. Applicants should be able to operate equipment such as track loaders, motor graders, track hoes, backhoes, tandem, and rubber tire loaders. The role requires working on a rotation, including during inclement weather. Salary is dependent on qualifications. Responsibilities include operating various heavy equipment, hauling and loading materials, street maintenance, performing preventive maintenance, snow removal, traffic direction in work zones, and assisting other departments. After-hours work may be required. Candidates should have the ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a high school level, with 1-2 years of relevant experience or training. Preferred qualifications include a CDL Class A license and knowledge of city policies, drainage, grading, and equipment operation. Applicants must meet city criteria for an acceptable driving record. Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, manual handling of tools and equipment, climbing, and lifting over 100 pounds. The position is safety-sensitive and subject to random drug testing. Work environments are outdoors, with exposure to noise, dust, machinery, and weather conditions, requiring protective gear as necessary.
