Job summary

Southern Core Recycling, a scrap metal facility serving the Houston area, is seeking a dependable Heavy Equipment Operator to support movement, processing, loading, and unloading of materials.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in scrap/recycling environments, be safety-conscious, and capable of working outdoors. This role requires independence while following supervisor directions and maintaining equipment safely.

Qualifications

• Experience operating loaders, excavators, material handlers, or similar heavy equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.
• Strong awareness of surroundings and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and follow direction from supervisors.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position.
• Dependable, punctual, and professional.
• Commitment to safe work practices and proper equipment operation.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate heavy equipment including loaders, excavators, material handlers, cranes, forklifts, and other equipment as assigned.
• Load and unload scrap metal and other materials from trucks and other transportation equipment.
• Move, sort, stage, and process materials throughout the facility.
• Assist with maintaining an efficient flow of material throughout the yard.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and report mechanical, maintenance, or safety concerns to management.
• Perform basic equipment maintenance and housekeeping as assigned.
• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and other employees regarding material movement and equipment operations.
• Interact professionally with customers and truck drivers when required.
• Assist with other yard and operational duties as assigned.
