Job summary

Lee County Public Library in Laurens, SC is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to maintain grounds and support county infrastructure. You will operate bulldozer, loader, backhoe, grader, and other equipment to redistribute material, install drainage, and repair roads under supervision.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, ability to lift up to 70 lbs, and a valid SC CDL Class A or ability to obtain.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; experience in facilities maintenance or related.
• Ability to read, write and perform basic math.
• Two to five years experience in maintenance or construction.
• Must pass drug screening prior to employment; random drug tests per Laurens County policy.
• Possession of or ability to obtain a valid South Carolina CDL Class A with air brakes.

Responsibilities

• Operates bulldozer to redistribute material and clear areas.
• Operates front-end loader to load trucks and move material.
• Operates backhoe/excavator to dig ditches and lay pipe.
• Shapes gravel roads with a motor grader.
• Patches paved roads using various methods and patching equipment.
• Maintains equipment and performs preventative maintenance.
• Assists in reconstructing county bridges.
• Performs daily checks of oil, fluids and tires on equipment.
