City of Auburn, AL is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator in Public Works to support road, drainage, and infrastructure projects. Responsibilities include operating equipment, assisting in construction, and traffic control to keep jobsites safe and efficient.
Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, 1–2 years’ experience, and the ability to obtain an Alabama Class A CDL within six months. Excellent communication and teamwork are essential for success in this role.

This position is responsible for operating heavy equipment in the maintenance and construction of roads, drainage systems, and other public works infrastructure. This position reports to the Construction Division Manager, the Maintenance Division Manager, or the Landscape and Sustainability Coordinator.

High school diploma or equivalent; one (1) to two (2) years’ experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The work is heavy work, which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, climbing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color and utilizes the sense of smell and hearing.
The work is typically performed in outdoor environments, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
