Watco is hiring an Operator to safely operate a variety of heavy equipment supporting daily transloading and site operations in Roanoke, VA. The role requires independence and teamwork in outdoor environments under varying conditions to ensure reliable site performance.

The position emphasizes safety, proper equipment inspection, and adherence to procedures, with a starting pay of $20/hour and a schedule of 5:30am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday, with potential overtime on weekends.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older with High School or GED equivalent.
• Minimal of 2-3 years of experience operating equipment is strongly preferred.
• Must show familiarity with various cargo types and hazards associated with equipment, cargo, and pedestrians.
• Valid Drivers license.
• Past credentials for associated equipment are preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Obtain qualifications and demonstrate competence for the equipment they will operate.
• Transfer bulk materials between trucks, railcars, vessels, barges, and storage areas per safety standards.
• Inspect equipment before and after use and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
• Participate in daily safety and job briefings, maintaining a focus on safety and teamwork.
• Follow written and verbal instructions to complete tasks efficiently and meet schedules.
• Work outdoors in varying weather while keeping a safe, clean workspace.
