Job summary

The Caton Construction Group, part of The Caton Companies, is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator for a bridge/roadway project in North Carolina. Qualified candidates will have experience operating excavators and dozers and maintaining equipment daily.

Starting pay is competitive and based on skills and experience. Normal hours are Monday–Friday, with potential long days and travel as needed. CDL preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Four years of experience operating medium and heavy equipment.
• Preferred: Valid CDL license.

Responsibilities

• Move and grade dirt, dig ditches and trenches, hoist materials and equipment using bulldozer, backhoe, road grader, or front-end loader.
• Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on equipment and report defects to supervisor.
• Operate all duties safely and in compliance with standards.

Heavy Equipment Operator

Caton Construction Group, one of the Caton Companies, with corporate offices in Troy, VA, and Cary, NC, is currently hiring Heavy Equipment Operators for our bridge/roadway project in Catawba County, North Carolina (Hickory). We particularly seek qualified excavator and dozer operators.

Starting pay is competitive and based on skills and experience.

The heavy equipment operator operates a variety of contractor equipment and properly maintains the equipment on a daily basis.

Responsibilities

• Work with and assist in moving and grading dirt, digging ditches and trenches, hoisting material, tools, equipment, and any related work with a bulldozer, backhoe, road grader, or front‑end loader.
• Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or repairs to the supervisor.
• Perform all duties in conformance with appropriate safety and security standards.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full‑time position. Normal days and hours of work are Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with time provided for lunch. Hours may vary and may include long hours and weekend work. The position may require local or out‑of‑town travel with overnight stays.

Travel / Driving

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out‑of‑area and overnight travel may be expected. A driver’s license is required.

Required Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Four years of experience operating medium and heavy equipment.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Valid CDL license.
