Job summary

R. J. Corman Railroad Services in El Paso, TX is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team.

You will transport, operate, and service heavy equipment used in clearing railroad derailments, while handling chains, blocks, cables, and tools and following all safety and PPE procedures. The role requires a valid CDL-A with no restrictions and DOT medical card; you will work outdoors in all weather and travel frequently to job sites.

Qualifications

• On-call 24/7 availability and frequent travel to job sites.
• Valid CDL-A with no restrictions, manual endorsement, and DOT medical card preferred.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations, permits, and driving requirements.
• Ability to operate heavy or specialized equipment, including Sidebooms, Track Loaders, Excavators, Vac Trucks, and Grapple Trucks.
• Must pass background, drug screen, and physical capacity test.

• Transport, operate, and service heavy equipment used in clearing railroad derailments.
• Handle heavy steel chains, blocks, steel cables, and other devices.
• Practice safe working habits and ensure proper PPE is being used.
• Safely drive, operate, and maintain CDL-A required vehicles and equipment.
• Perform maintenance, cleaning, and set-up of equipment requiring the use of small and large tools, including cutting torch and welding.
• Perform digging, hammering, and other physical types of work with various tools.
• Follow DOT regulations, ensuring proper permits and driving regulations are followed.
• Be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions.
• Communicate with team and supervisor throughout the job process.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Specialized or Technical Knowledge, Education and Experience

• Ability to work on call 24/7 and travel frequently to job sites.
• Valid CDL-A with no restrictions, manual endorsement, and DOT medical card highly preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Lift 100 lbs. maximum, with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects up to 50 lbs.
• Handle heavy steel chains, blocks, steel cables, and other devices.
• Perform digging, hammering, and other physical types of work with various tools.
• Comfortable working at heights over 25 feet on railroad cars, on bridges, over water, or in water.

Environmental Requirements

• Be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions.
• Travel frequently to job sites.
• Must live within 45 minutes of the R. J. Corman shop.
• Comfortable working on railroad cars, bridges, over water, or in water.
• Love working outside!
