Job summary

Town of North Attleborough is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator – Gr. 4 for the Highway Department. This full-time role (37 hours/week) involves operating public works equipment of substantial weight and complexity, under supervision, with independent judgment in field conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment for highway department projects.
• Assist with resurfacing, pothole patching, guardrail repairs, sidewalks and curbing, drainage construction, trenching, catch basins, drainage lines, street sweeping, road sign repair, and brush clearing.
• Perform laborer duties when not operating equipment.
• Operate snow removal vehicles, sanding and salting; plow and treat sidewalks as needed.

INTERNAL (LABORERS UNION MEMBERS ONLY)

POSITION TITLE: HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR – GR. 4

HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT

Full-time 37 hours per week

Pay: $26.18 - $36.72 per hour

Skilled manual work in the operation of Public Works equipment of substantial weight And complexity for all highway department projects; all other related work as required. Works under the direct supervision of the Working Foreman. Performs duties in accordance with established procedures and techniques, requiring independent judgement in operating equipment. Frequent moderate and occasionally strenuous physical effort required in performing work under field conditions with unavoidable exposure to bad weather and a variety of hazardous conditions. Assists with all Highway Department projects including resurfacing and widening of roadways, patching potholes, repairing guardrail, building and repairing sidewalks and curbing, constructing drainage structures, excavating and backfilling trenches, cleaning catch basins and drainage lines, sweeping streets, repairing road signs, and moving, clearing, and trimming brush along highways, may assist with tree work including the operation of saws and chipper; assists other Town departments on specific projects. Performs laborer’s duties when not assigned to equipment operation. Operates vehicles providing roadway snow removal, sanding and scraping ice; mixes and salt; may plow, sand and salt sidewalks, assists in emergency repairs as required.
