Job summary

City of Lubbock in Texas seeks a skilled heavy equipment operator to service and operate backhoes, dump trucks, loaders, excavators and other large machinery used in water and wastewater projects.

You will perform maintenance, troubleshoot basic issues, and follow strict safety protocols. This role requires a Texas CDL Class A license and adherence to background checks and drug screening due to critical infrastructure responsibilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of progressive experience with listed equipment.
• Valid Texas CDL Class A license.
• Physical exam required.
• Critical Infrastructure: background checks and drug screening.
• Knowledge of heavy equipment used in water/wastewater construction.

Responsibilities

Job description

Operates and services the heavier types of construction equipment such as backhoe (greater than 5 feet), dump truck, front end loader, skid steer, excavator, valve truck, volumetric concrete mixer, haul truck and other construction equipment of comparable size and complexity.

Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional 2 year of progressive experience on any of the required equipment listed on this job description; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A Driver's License

Knowledge of:

• Operation and maintenance of heavy motorized equipment typically used in the construction of water and wastewater for purposes of maintenance and new construction.

Ability to:

• Operate heavy equipment skillfully and safely;
• Perform maintenance and service work on trucks and heavy equipment;
• Make field repairs;
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds;
• Occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds;
• Walk and stand during a shift;
• Climb ladders, scaffolding, stairs, poles and inclined surfaces;
• Continuously push and pull objects;
• Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees;
• Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing;
• Reach above, at or below shoulder height;
• Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate motorized vehicles and machinery.
