The City of Independence seeks an Equipment Operator I for the Municipal Services Department, Collection System Maintenance Division. Under supervision, you will operate heavy construction and right-of-way equipment to build and maintain roads, sewers, and related infrastructure.

You will perform traffic control, minor repairs, logs/reports, and emergency services as needed, including snow removal. Requires CDL Class B with endorsements, NIMS training within six months, and map-reading

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; six months’ experience in light equipment operation or six months as Equipment Operator I.
• Must possess a valid Class B CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements or obtain a permit prior to first day; must obtain CDL within six months.
• Must complete required NIMS level training within six months of hire.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance and minor repair procedures for construction/maintenance equipment.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively; pass a competitive written examination; read and interpret maps for locations and assignments.

Responsabilités

• Operate a variety of heavy construction and right-of-way equipment.
• Construct, repair, and maintain roads, sewers, fields and rights-of-way; perform traffic control duties.
• Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment; operate snow removal equipment as required.
• Prepare logs and reports of work completed.
• Communicate with citizens and customers; emergencies during non-business hours as needed.
