Job summary

UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester is seeking an Equipment Operator / Grounds to manage heavy equipment and grounds maintenance under supervision. You will operate backhoes, dump trucks, snow plows, mowers, and related equipment during regular hours from 6 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities include loading/unloading, performing routine maintenance, applying sand/salt/gravel, repairing concrete/asphalt, mowing, planting trees and flowers, and supporting maintenance trades

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent experience.
• 2 years of landscape or equipment operator experience.
• Valid CDL and Hoisting License.
• Knowledge of laws/regulations regarding operation of motor vehicles and heavy power-operated equipment.
• Ability to travel to off-site locations.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment and trucks to maintain roadways and grounds.
• Transport materials to warehouse and other locations using light vehicles.
• Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment (lubricating, fueling, cleaning, tire/battery/oil checks).
• Load and unload furniture, equipment, and supplies.
• Apply sand, salt, and gravel.
• Operate two-way radios.
• Operate welders, chainsaws, jackhammers, painting equipment as assigned.
• Repair concrete and asphalt surfaces; paint roadways and parking areas.
• Perform grounds maintenance (mowing, raking, planting trees/flowers).
• Assist with maintenance trades when needed.
• Perform other duties as required.
