Job summary

University of Massachusetts Medical School is seeking an Equipment Operator/Grounds to operate heavy equipment and maintain campus roads and grounds. The role involves driving, routine maintenance, loading materials and seasonal tasks in all weather conditions.

Regular hours are 6 am–2:30 pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional after-hours work during weather events. Applicants should have a high school diploma, 2 years of relevant experience, and valid CDL/Hoisting licenses.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years landscape or equipment operator experience.
  • Valid CDL and Hoisting License.
  • Knowledge of laws/regulations for operation of motor vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment (backhoes, loaders, bulldozers, dump trucks, snow plows, sanders, mowers) to maintain grounds.
  • Operate light vehicles to transport materials to warehouses and other locations.
  • Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment (lubrication, fueling, tires, oil, coolant, hoses).
  • Load and unload furniture, equipment, and supplies.
  • Mix/apply sand, salt, and gravel.
  • Use two-way radios to coordinate with teams.
  • Operate welders, chainsaws, jackhammers, painting equipment as assigned.
  • Repair concrete/asphalt surfaces and paint roadways/parking areas.
  • Perform ground maintenance tasks (mowing, raking, planting trees/flowers).
  • Assist with other maintenance trades as needed.
