Job summary

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) in California seeks a skilled equipment operator to excavate, grade, and maintain lands and facilities, performing tasks on trails, roads, canals, and construction sites from engineered drawings.

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy equipment for land management or construction projects.
• Valid CDL required; obtain within one year of appointment if not already held.
• Ability to teach safety practices to others as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment to excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth per blueprints for trails, roads, canals, or construction sites.
• Perform daily equipment checks, fueling, and routine maintenance; keep maintenance logs.
• Maintain water control structures, pumps, and related systems; monitor water levels and usage.
