Equipment Operator / Dirt Work

Alyeska Builders is a locally owned general contractor serving Interior Alaska, and we're looking for experienced equipment operators and dirt work professionals who take pride in quality workmanship and want to be part of a team that genuinely enjoys working together.

Our dirt work season may slow down during the winter, but our commitment to the right people doesn't. We take pride in finding ways to keep our team employed year-round. Winter work may look different depending on available projects and can include snow removal, mitigation work, demolition, remodels, and other construction work.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Site preparation, excavation, grading, and backfill
  • Foundation and utility excavation
  • Building pads, driveways, and site access
  • Trenching and drainage work
  • Fine and rough grading
  • Loading, moving, placing, and compacting materials
  • Operating excavators, skid steers, loaders, compactors, and other equipment
  • Performing basic equipment inspections and daily maintenance
  • Working safely around utilities, structures, equipment, and other crew members
  • Assisting with general dirt work and labor as needed
  • Working alongside other trades on residential and commercial projects
  • Maintaining clean, professional job sites and quality workmanship
What We're Looking For:
  • Minimum 2 years of dirt work, excavation, or equipment operating experience
  • Experience safely operating excavation and earthmoving equipment
  • Understanding of excavation, grading, compaction, and site preparation
  • Ability and willingness to work both in and out of equipment as the job requires
  • General construction and multi-trade experience is a plus
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
  • Ability to regularly lift 50+ pounds
  • Strong work ethic and dependable attendance
  • Positive attitude, attention to detail, and team-first mentality

Interested in dirt work or equipment operation but don't have the experience yet? We offer a limited number of Construction Apprentice positions for motivated individuals who want to learn, develop their skills, and build a career in construction. If you don't yet meet the experience requirements for this position, we encourage you to apply for our apprentice position.

Employment Requirements

As part of the Alyeska Builders team, employees are expected to:

  • Maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Complete OSHA-10 certification before employment (company-provided if needed).
  • Complete one company-approved continuing education course every six months (provided by the company and completed on your own time).
  • Report any driving violations that may affect employment responsibilities.

No Earning Ceiling

After reaching Journeyman status, employees become eligible for annual 1–3% performance-based wage increases, creating continued opportunities for financial growth throughout their career with Alyeska Builders.

Schedule
  • Full-time employment
  • Monday–Friday standard schedule
  • Overtime and Saturdays are common during the busy construction season
  • Year-round or seasonal opportunities available
