Job description

Position Summary

This position involves operating heavy equipment on a dirt or base crew, including, but not limited to, finish blades, graders, compaction rollers, loaders, skid steers, backhoes, and water trucks.

Responsibilities
  1. Ensures a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
  2. Operates a variety of vehicles and heavy construction equipment.
  3. Performs routine inspections and maintenance on equipment; reports defects and repairs to the maintenance department.
  4. Takes actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, and objects.
  5. Operates other heavy equipment and performs other construction-related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  1. Must be safety-oriented and exhibit safe work habits.
  2. Self-motivated and eager to learn new skills.
  3. Perform well in a “TEAM” environment.
  4. Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  5. Willing to work hours that are associated with the asphalt industry, including overtime and weekends as needed.
  6. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  7. Basic mathematical skills.
  8. A valid driver license is required.
  9. Pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
Minimum Education and Experience
  1. 1-3 years of experience operating equipment preferred.
  2. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Physical Requirements & Conditions
  1. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noise.
  2. Ability to lift 75 pounds.
  3. Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
