Job summary

Cornell University in Ithaca, NY is seeking skilled workers to operate construction equipment and support utilities, landscape, and building maintenance across campus. CDL certification and a safe driving record are essential, with training provided under the UAW agreement.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• CDL license required or must obtain within 6 months of hire.
• DOT physical and pre-employment drug test are required.
• A valid U.S. driver’s license is required to travel to job sites.

Responsibilities

• Operate construction equipment and motorized vehicles to support utilities, excavation, and maintenance.
• Perform manual labor for landscape and general maintenance tasks.
• Report unsafe conditions or damage promptly.
• Be available for 24‑hour call‑intendency, especially during snow events.
• Work shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet seasonal demands.
• Work in extreme weather conditions for extended periods.
• Possibly be exposed to sewage, dead animals, bees, and pollen.
• Be covered by the UAW Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Education
