Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday (6:30a - 5:00p) “or” Tuesday - Friday (6:30a-5:00p)
This schedule is subject to change during a holiday week or for emergency service which may require working a flexible schedule with little or no notice and may include weekends, nights, or holidays. This employee will be assigned to the snow and ice removal program and will be subject to working 12-hour shifts during winter or other weather-related events.

About the Role:
This Heavy Equipment Operator will perform general maintenance on the City's street infrastructure. The primary duties of this position will be to safely, effectively, and responsibly operate heavy equipment in support of asphalt maintenance and repair activities. The selected applicant will primarily operate the (backhoe), but may also operate heavy equipment including, but not limited to, pavers, skid steers, motor graders, dump trucks, rubber tire loaders, rollers, and track excavators as needed for a variety of maintenance and construction operations involving streets, rights-of-way, and other City-owned facilities. Perform additional construction and maintenance tasks such as truck driving, assisting crew with placement of asphalt and spreading, emergency tree removal, and a variety of minor maintenance activities; operation of hand and power tools including shovels, rakes, chain saws, etc. Will participate in seasonal events such as loose leaf collection and emergency events such as snow & ice and storm debris removal.
When needed, this position is subject to extended hours, emergency call-ins, and non-typical work hours to meet project needs. Performs routine inspections and maintenance of assigned heavy equipment, including lubrication, cleaning, and other safety-related tasks. This individual must be able to follow both verbal and written instructions.
The City of Greensboro pays employees a bi-weekly, 40-hour work schedule, typically Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This schedule is subject to change during a holiday week or for emergency service, which may require working a flexible schedule with little or no notice and may include nights, weekends, or holidays. This employee must have good attendance. The physical duties include standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, walking on uneven surfaces, shoveling, and heavy lifting up to (50 pounds). Work is performed outside in all weather conditions. A skills test will be given for Heavy Equipment Operators.
