Heavy Equipment Operator and General Maintenance Technician

Reporting directly to the Director of Building Construction & Facility Maintenance, this position will be responsible operating heavy equipment such as tractor, dump truck, skidders and loaders as needed but have skill set and willing to be flexible and adaptable to take on other projects as needed such as: light electrical work, carpentry, and plumbing.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Specific Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

• Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials and supplies.
• Operates trucks and construction or power equipment, such as bulldozer, tractor, backhoe, man-lift, dump truck, road grater, front-end loader, excavators.
• Operates jackhammers, mowers, brush chippers and other small equipment and tools to maintain street and utility systems.
• Works with and assists in digging ditches and trenches, hoisting material, tools, equipment, and any related work with a backhoe, road grater or front-end loader.
• Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs to the supervisor; cleans equipment.
• From time to time will be performing Carpentry and Plumbing tasks.
• Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
• Must be willing to work six (6) days a week as needed and at times seven (7) days per week.
• Must be self-motivated to see the final project completion.
• Other errands and duties and described by the Director of Building Construction & Facility Maintenance

Qualifications and Skills:

• 5+ years’ experience with a variety of heavy equipment
• High School Diploma preferred but not required
• Experience with Carpentry and Plumbing
• Strong sense of urgency, problem solving skills
• The ability to plan and deal with unexpected changes strategically and expeditiously
• Positive attitude and outside of the box thinking to improve efficiencies
• “Own It” Mentality that is mission-driven
• Ability to multi-task effectively
• Must be self-motivated
• Ability to operate tools of the trade
• Able to work overtime as needed including emergencies and inclement weather
• Ability to work outside and in extreme conditions
• Must be able to work independently and / or cooperatively with others
• Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of the job, including heavy work. Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment, as necessary.
• Ability to adhere to company policies and procedures
