Job summary

City of McMinnville seeks an energetic Heavy Equipment Operator for the Public Works Department to help maintain streets and sidewalks across the City. You will operate heavy equipment and hand tools, perform maintenance tasks and support construction projects.

Required are a HS diploma, a valid Class B CDL (or ability to obtain within 6 months) and at least one year of heavy equipment experience; lifting up to 75 lbs is required. Competitive benefits and on-call rotation apply.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, bulldozers, backhoes, brush truck, sweeper.
  • Load trucks and cover assigned area; assist in hauling garbage.
  • Maintain proper schedule for pickup and disposal.
  • Perform routine vehicle maintenance and cleaning.
  • Inspect equipment and report issues to supervisor.
  • Assist with road repairs and sidewalk maintenance as needed.

Job description

The City of McMinnville is looking for an energetic and experienced Heavy Equipment Operator for our Public Works Department. This position plays an important role in maintaining the streets and sidewalks throughout the City. Position will operate various heavy equipment as well as hand powered tools and manual tools. This a versatile position with responsibilities in heavy equipment operation, building and maintaining sidewalks, repairing road cuts and potholes, mowing right-of-ways, street sweeping, mosquito spraying and various construction projects. Examples of equipment operation include front-end loaders, bulldozers, and backhoes, etc. in a variety of maintenance and construction tasks as well as a brush truck, side loader, and sweeper.

This is a non-exempt hourly position with starting pay of $20.91 without a CDL and $21.54 with CDL. Pay is based on qualifications and experience.

Hours are 6am -2:30pm Monday though Friday. On-call requirements are 1 week every 8-10 weeks with additional pay.

The City of McMinnville offers great benefits and time off. The City pays over 80% of employees' medical premium plus offers a wellness and tobacco free discount on the monthly premium up to $150. Life Insurance for the employee and family and long-term disability for the employee is covered at no charge to the employee. Vision / Dental and short-term disability is available.

The City also offers an ample amount of paid time off. There are fourteen designated paid holidays. Annual time is accrued 48 hours year one increasing to 102 hours in year two plus 48 hours of personal time. Sick time is accrued monthly beginning day one.

The City also offers a retirement plan through TCRS with 401k.

Minimum Requirements
  • HS degree or equivalent
  • Possession of a valid Class B CDL or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • One year of experience in the operation of heavy equipment
  • Must be able to lift, move, and carry up to 75 lbs.
Job Functions
  • Drives and operates a heavy load hydraulic refuse collection truck
  • Assists in loading trucks and covers assigned area or route
  • Maintains proper schedule in picking up and hauling garbage and trash to disposal area
  • Performs routine maintenance on vehicle including cleaning of vehicle
  • Inspects the equipment for mechanical problems and informs supervisor of any problems
  • Loads and/or helps load and unload trucks that requires lifting 50 to 75 lbs.
