Job summary

Chesterfield County is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to operate rubber tire backhoes and loaders for debris management and trash container services. Responsibilities

  • Maintain a positive attitude and prioritize safety at all times.

Job description

High school diploma or GED; three years of experience in skilled operation of heavy construction equipment to include rubber tire loaders and backhoes; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of a CDL A license may be substituted for two years of experience. Ability to perform light maintenance on heavy equipment is preferred. Strong customer service skills, effective communication, teamwork, and accurate recordkeeping are essential. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A is required within six (6) months of employment. Training to obtain the CDL will be provided at no cost. This position requires the ability to lift up to 60 pounds.

Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.

This position is a federally regulated DOT position and is subject to random drug testing and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited.

Operate rubber tire backhoes to compact trash containers and rubber tire loaders to push and stack vegetative debris. Drive and operate roll off trucks and road tractors to haul trash to local landfills and transport recyclable materials to recycling facilities. Assist with site snow removal as needed. Maintain a positive attitude and prioritize safety at all times. Perform other work as required. PLEASE NOTE: Employees must maintain personal mobile technology as a condition of employment.

40 hours per week, 10-hour shifts; overtime is required to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
