ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Equipment Operator is responsible for learning all aspects of the material handler (excavator) operation, stationary shear, and other equipment to safely process and move material throughout our yard, including inspection and routine/minor maintenance. The role requires the ability to read, write, interpret documents, communicate effectively, and maintain regular and reliable attendance.

ABOUT YOU:

Previous experience operating material handling equipment is required. Willingness to learn and be trained in the safe operation of our equipment is essential. Candidates must be reliable, trustworthy, and team players.

MORE DETAILS:

• Perform safety checks on equipment according to checklists.
• Check all fluid levels and backup alarms; add fluids as needed.
• Perform lubrication and daily service activities per procedures.
• Start equipment and verify gauges for proper operation.
• Operate heavy equipment to load/unload and feed scrap processing equipment, following safety procedures.
• Follow shutdown procedures at the end of each shift.
• Complete and maintain required paperwork, records, and documentation.
• Comply with all safety and work regulations; maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
• Plan work sequences for effective completion of tasks.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or GED, and 3-5 years of related experience, or a combination of education and experience with mechanical aptitude.
• Experience operating equipment such as excavators, forklifts, tractors, and skid steers.
• Reliable attendance history.
