Custer County is accepting applications for a full-time Equipment Operator I with the Highway Department. This position plays a key role in maintaining over 400 miles of county roads and involves operating heavy equipment, performing snow and ice removal, and handling general road maintenance year-round in all weather conditions. The standard schedule is four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday, with weekends and holidays off—except during emergencies or weather events.
The starting wage is $23.18 per hour and includes a full benefits package. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and be able to lift up to 100 pounds. A valid South Dakota Class A CDL with tanker endorsement is preferred and must be obtained within six months of hire. Experience with equipment operation is preferred. This position requires relocation or commuting to Custer, SD.
