Journeyman Union Scale (Cat 2 - 6). Range $29.29 - 47.24 per hour (based on experience and/or size and type of equipment) (This pay range is a good-faith estimate of compensation for this role.)

Job Summary:The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy machinery to support construction, excavation, material handling, and site preparation activities. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, equipment care, and teamwork while performing work in accordance with company policies, project specifications, and applicable regulations.

Job Duties & Requirements:

  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, bulldozers, graders, backhoes, skid steers, articulated dump trucks, and similar machinery.
  • Perform earthmoving, trenching, grading, loading, and material placement activities as directed.
  • Inspect equipment before, during, and after use to ensure safe operation and report mechanical issues or safety concerns.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance tasks such as greasing, fueling, and cleaning equipment.
  • Follow all safety procedures, traffic control plans, and site‑specific rules.
  • Read and interpret basic plans, grade stakes, and verbal or written instructions.
  • Work cooperatively with supervisors, spotters, laborers, and other team members.
  • Maintain awareness of surroundings to avoid hazards to people, utilities, structures, and equipment.
  • Complete required documentation, inspections, or equipment logs as assigned.
  • Support jobsite housekeeping and assist with manual labor as needed.
  • Follow company and industry safety standards and procedures at all times.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment in construction, excavation, or related industries.
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL is a plus but not required).
  • Willingness to work extended hours, early mornings, and weekends as needed.
  • High school education or GED equivalent.
