Job Overview

Operate landscaping and construction heavy equipment to complete landscaping and snow removal projects, maintaining a safe and attractive environment. Maintain traffic flow through painting, maintenance, and installation of traffic control devices in roadways, parking lots, and garages. May supervise other staff as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy landscaping and construction equipment, including street sweepers and snow removal machinery, adhering to SMSC driving standards.
  • Perform maintenance on parking facilities, including sweeping, pressure washing, sealing, and asphalt repairs.
  • Paint and stripe parking lots, garages, and roadways; layout new or re-striped areas.
  • Use specialized equipment such as trenchers, sod cutters, and chainsaws for landscaping and repairs. Plant, prune, fertilize, and apply chemicals to turf and plants. Perform tree felling and debris removal.
  • Support other departments with projects like setting up outdoor stages, unloading trailers, and temporary parking management.
  • Manage traffic control for events by placing/removing signs, cones, and barricades.
  • Maintain and repair equipment; assist with vehicle repairs, welding, and fabrication.
  • Perform occasional tasks, including flag maintenance and supervising other maintenance staff.
Work Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience operating landscaping or heavy construction equipment.
  • At least 1 year of experience with snow plows and tree felling equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic repairs and preventive maintenance on various equipment.
  • Chainsaw safety and maintenance certification or ability to obtain it.
  • Class A CDL Driver's License required; training provided within 1 year of hire.
  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing per federal regulations and SMSC policies.
